Chimney Restoration Pointing.

Normally Your chimney is designed to withstand all kinds of weather conditions, from record-high temperatures in the summer to heavy storms and wind-driven rain. Eventually, the mortar between the bricks will wear away, causing water to leak into your roof. Repointing is the answer.

We also inspect the possible Re-bedding the chimney pots if needed, when Re-flaunching. Re-flaunching is included in our prices of chimney restoration.

what quote would we give? well like all quotes they are based on factors. Our normal price for a standard chimney is £750 maximum, for standard price. this will include all materials, for the repointing as well as labour costs. this means removing the waste and then replying the skill.

if using lime, we will normally have 5 to 6 days on a chimney. reason being is we want to be patient and make sure its protected. if we are using basic portland and sand, we would be looking at two to three day maximum for a standard brick chimney. Stone Chimney time frames a little similiar, based on the depth of hacking out and repointing.

Why repoint your chimney, what is it?

Repointing your chimney involves removing deteriorated or damaged mortar from the joints, and replacing it with new mortar. The brick or stone that your chimney is made from is extremely long-lasting. However, mortar deteriorates much more quickly. This can cause gaps/vegetation to grow in the joints and water to seep in. If left unchecked, you could eventually be looking at structural damage in the roof and potential leaks in your property. In fact, if the structure of your chimney deteriorates enough, you could even end up forking out on expensive leaning chimney stack repair costs. Repointing is an important way to protect and improve the stability of your chimney’s structure. Plus, new pointing will freshen up the look of your stone or brickwork.

Here are the key signs to look out for:

Damaged mortar joints

Cracked chimney crown

Spalling bricks

knowing when or how often your chimney may need pointed is always great to know, especially when restoring a property and also buying one.

these key details could save you money, short and long term.

a little research never hurt anyone. so its always best to do some digging. when a problem appears hopefully the info above gives you a better insight.

Once your chimney has been repointed correctly, it shouldn’t need further repointing for at least 30 years. In fact, a really good repointing job could even last up to 100! However, research first! if it needs it then it will only be a matter of time before it gets worse.

Water repellent finish as well as a water proofing bitchamen is also applied at the end of our procedure.
